ABC Classic FM - Margaret Throsby interviews Dr John Carty

March 27, 2012

Just by chance this morning (27th March) I turned on the radio at just the right time to hear Margaret Throsby interview John Carty on ABC Classic FM.  It gives great insight into the man behind the Canning Stock Route project and is well worth listening to as a pod cast if you get a moment.

John Carty is an anthropologist and curator who has worked extensively with Aboriginal artists throughout Central Australia, the Western Desert, Pilbara and Kimberley region. From 2007-2010 he was the principal researcher for the Canning Stock Route project, and is co-curator of the exhibition Yiwarra Kuju: The Canning Stock Route which has been seen at the National Museum of Australia in Canberra is now on at the Australian Museum in Sydney until April 29th. For more information about the Exhibition you can visit the Museum website here.

He recently completed a project with the Ngaanyatjarra artists of Central Australia on another book exploring the Aboriginal art history of that region. The companion exhibition, 'Purnu, Tjanpi Canvas: Art of the Ngaanyatjarra Lands' was launched at the Perth International Arts Festival in 2012. The exhibition can be seen at the Lawrence Wilson Art Gallery at the University of Western Australia until 12th May 2012. You can visit the website for the Gallery here.
